Cherie Dalton

Clinical Psychologist

Cherie Dalton is a highly skilled clinical psychologist with a breadth of experience spanning 30 years of practice. She is passionate about assisting women through the psychological challenges of the perimenopause and menopause transition.

Cherie provides psychological intervention to perimenopausal and menopausal women experiencing mood and anxiety disorders, body image concerns and eating disorders, grief/bereavement, sleep problems, self-esteem/identity issues, stress and/or emotional dysregulation, relationship concerns, and unresolved psychological conflicts that have surfaced or resurfaced across this period of life. Cherie is aware of the complex intersection of difficulties that arise and is passionate about supporting women through this transition.

Cherie is also experienced in providing perinatal psychology and has supported many women through this period. In addition, Cherie has an interest in providing psychological support to women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and is aware of the significant impact on mental health including depression, anxiety, and body image concerns that can occur in relation to this condition.

Cherie views the therapeutic relationship as a partnership between client and therapist, and feels it is paramount for successful outcomes in psychotherapy. She provides therapeutic assistance to people in a compassionate, respectful, and meaningful manner. The therapeutic techniques are tailored to clients and their specific needs.

Cherie utilizes a range of treatment modalities and tailors her approach to each woman's needs, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness approaches, psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and clinical hypnosis. Along with her clinical psychology training, Cherie has completed training in clinical hypnosis which she incorporates into her treatment when appropriate. Peer-reviewed research has demonstrated that clinical hypnosis and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) can be helpful in managing vasomotor perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms.

Prior to developing her private practice in 2001, Cherie was employed in clinical research at the Early Psychosis Prevention and Intervention Centre (EPPIC), adult psychiatry, and counselling and rehabilitation services. She has completed academic research in dieting and body dissatisfaction.

Cherie offers in-person sessions from her rooms in Malvern or Telehealth video sessions.
